Title
Hurricane Helene Stories by Givens Estate Residents
Description
This booklet of stories was gathered and edited by Jim Chatham, a resident of Givens Estates, a non-profit Life Plan Community (continuing care retirement community) located in South Asheville. For the past 16 years, Givens Estates has hosted a 6-week workshop entitled Turning Your Life into Literature. "About 160 people have been through it, and 7 monthly reading groups continue. The workshops have resulted in a fair bit of pretty good writing but even more in camaraderie and friendship," Jim said. In late 2024 he collected these stories from workshop participants about their Hurricane Helene experiences. (Note that two writers asked that their stories not be included online, so chapters 17 and 18 are omitted from this version.)
