It was from the West Asheville Library parking lot that I was first able, on September 30, to post an update on Instagram to let my wider network of friends know my family was safe. (The day before that, I'd found cell service at the parking lot of Asheville FM and called my immediate family.) From there, I quickly fell into a routine of walking here for a daily dose of Internet to catch up on texts, check for updates, scroll, post, scroll... Meanwhile, remote employees like these folks set up an impressive little hub for co-working outside the closed library. We all might not have been able to shower all week, but this was a little semblance of normalcy. (I asked for permission to take this photo.)
