WNC Battered by Rains
Description
Front page article describes the damage from the recent storm. 26 car accidents were reported; "at least twice as many" as normal. Throughout the night, 7,000 people lost power and around 300 telephone lines went out. A short weather forecast is printed. The French Broad is reported to have crested at 12' in Rosman, and 8' in Asheville. It is stated that the flooding was caused by a tropical depression moving through the area. Patton Avenue near Louisiana Avenue was completely submerged. Details of a few of the car accidents are printed here, including an accident between two trucks that resulted in the hospitalization of all three people involved.
