2 Families Swept Away On Tidal Wave
Description
Front page article recounts the experiences of the residents of Fowler's Trailer Park during the flood. A picture of Porter Fowler Jr. is printed here. A 4' tall wave of water hit a trailer two families were sheltering in, and after sweeping it off its moorings, broke it in two and killed several of the people inside. The mothers of each family were rescued, however the fathers and the children were lost. Both families-- the Woodys and the Roberts--had a working landline until the water hit the trailer. The Woodys trailer remained intact, and the author hypothesizes that had they stayed within it, they would have survived. Fowler Jr., the son of the trailer park's owner, saved a woman and her niece. He believes that the cause of the 'wave' was parts of a nearby dam giving way. The photo of Fowler Jr. was taken by Malcolm Gamble.
