Title
Rains Threaten Yancey Site
Description
Article begins by describing families living below the Cane River dam and 50 residents of a trailer park in Burnsville being evacuated in anticipation of a flood. Evacuations of the area below the Baker's Creek dam are also advised, as a breach has been observed, and water is flowing 8' above the top of the dam. If the dam gives way, thousands of people would be in danger. The rains causing the floods are remnants from storm Agnes. Lake Lure has gotten 8" of rain in a 3-day period, and one person has died on the roads because of it. Roads in and out of Asheville have been covered by water, and several bridges are out of service due to it. Falling trees are causing electrical issues in the area. A list of closed roads are printed here. Property damage reports in Buncombe County are also printed here. Basements all over Asheville are flooded. Roads blocked by landslides are listed. Rain is expected to taper off this evening. 27 separate traffic accidents were reported to the Asheville Police Department, and several people have been injured in them.
