Water Several Feet Deep
Description
Several pictures are printed here. In the first photo, at the top left of the page, the section of the Canton highway outside of the West Asheville Auto Theater is covered in water. The second picture, a recently evacuated home in Candler can be seen. The third picture depicts the Candler Post Office, with a chalk line drawn on the building to the right of it to show how high the water had gotten. The fourth picture shows Candler residents clearing debris from an inundated bridge. The fifth picture depicts 'swirling water' reaching the bottom of a bridge near Canton. Normally, the waters would have been 10' below the bottom of the bridge. In the sixth picture, above the line of photos at the bottom of the page, the Tuckaseegee River is depicted flowing over the power dam. The seventh picture, leftmost in the row at the bottom of the page, depicts water from Flat Creek flowing over the spillway at Lake Susan. The eigth picture, in the middle of the row, depicts the disaster unit of the Red Cross at their office in Black Mountain City Hall. In the ninth picture, the waters of the Swannanoa River cover the Swannanoa highway as well as an overturned truck.
