Title
Haywood Crops Take Beating, Homes Spared
Description
Front page article describes crops in Haywood County being submerged in water. "Acres of knee-high corn were smashed flat and washed away.." 100 homes in Canton were threatened by the water from the flash flood and families were evacuated. However, the water did not reach these homes. Waters did, however, wipe out bridges east of Canton. The Champion Fibre Company dug dikes and closed the mill in anticipation of flood damages, and these measures helped to prevent most damage. The National Guard arrived south of Canton to assist people in returning to their homes. There were no reports of human or livestock deaths.
