Dublin Core
Title
Helene’s Pass
Description
The one road into Eastmoor was completely destroyed. 125 residences were trapped. The community came together and hand built a gravel road over Jones mountain from Hampton Parish to Small Mountain Drive . The road was only partially complete when this photograph was taken. This was the moment that the community had first contact with the outside world, a search and rescue unit from Illinois., four days after the storm. They were able to drive up on a ATV during one of the community meetings to much applause.. The next day Helene Pass was open to evacuate people from Eastmoor as needed.
