People were warned to evacuate their homes before the worst of the rain hit, and horses were removed from stables in the Biltmore district. Train services were interrupted by the floodwaters, and some train cars in the area were floated off their tracks before being set back down when the water fell. A highway from Dillsboro to Cherokee is expected to be open to traffic in two days. Nine bridges in Cullowhee were washed out.
