Heavy Rainfall Sends Streams Out of Banks
Description
Front page article describing the arrival of more heavy rain after two previous storms within the past two weeks. Experts from the US Weather Bureau have said that this rain "was not nearly as heavy as two weeks ago", and therefore did not expect any serious flooding as long as rain did not continue. The rain continued, and flood water was reported near the city incinerator. Men have been sent to keep an eye on the Bee Tree Dam. These men partially opened a valve to prevent waters from rising to an excessive degree, and to prevent a repeat of the scare from the 14th. More rain is expected throughout the day, with more tomorrow. Highway 25 and the Asheville-Canton Highway are both closed due to being covered by water. Two temporary bridges constructed after the floods two weeks ago were washed out by the Pigeon River. Asheville residents have been calling the weather bureau and newspaper offices for news on the rain. Street crews have been sent out to clear stopped-up sewers. Two automobile accidents near Brevard are blamed on the rain, with only minor injuries documented. Flat Creek rose above its banks on the 29th and is now covering the road leading to Lakey Gap. Water from the Pigeon River is flooding Fibreville village of the Champion Paper and Fibre Company.
