Title
Dining Hall at West Campus
Description
Black Mountain Home for Children's West Campus was devastated by a landslide caused by Hurricane Helene. The dining hall, once part of the Swannanoa 4-H Camp had one end sheared off by the force of the slide. Here you can see the courtyard behind the hall. The rockwork including a staircase, terrace, and bread oven (not pictured) were built by German POWs during WWII. Fortunately, it's likely that the mud and debris can be removed to salvage this important piece of history. Other historic buildings on the site were completely destroyed.
