Title
Flood of 1940 at American Enka Plant
Description
View of factory buildings and warehouses of the American Enka Plant surrounded by water from Hominy Creek after the flood of 1940. The sequence of three images shows three men boarding a boat and floating off down a side street that is now under water. Street lights on poles and signs posting the speed limit mark the edge of the street. Scene identified from a similar newspaper photo from the Asheville Citizen-Times of 09/01/1940. The AC-T photo is captioned "Scene at Enka gate as waters of Hominy Creek poured into the rayon plant there."
