Title
Carolina Machinery Company and other wreckage during 1916 flood
Description
Sepia photo postcard taken during flood of July 1916, showing slope of upland to left, immersed utility poles and wrecked buildings to right. Carolina Machinery Co (Avery St) is the tallest building. At the perspective vanishing point beyond the buildings the center span of the West Asheville Bridge can be discerned. This places the scene north (downstream) of the bridge, and the upland on the left may be the Montford area or Riverside Cemetery.
