Kimberly King:
In South Asheville, there is one shelter that there has space and you can come here. It's at the Western North Carolina Ag Center in the Expo Center. This is one of two shelters that we know does have space that includes the Harrahs Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville. I'm joined by Sean McKeon, who is the general manager here at the Expo Center. And you had people starting to come in last night, right Sean? How many do you have right now?
Sean McKeon:
I think we got about 25, 30 people plus officers and security, but they started coming in late last night and then I think after the mandatory evacuations this morning, there's capacity for more.
Kimberly King:
Are you able to have any supplies? Do you have water, anything like that if people have to stay here several days?
Sean McKeon:
State emergency will be here this afternoon and they've taken full responsibility for all that.
Kimberly King:
Of course, there are rolling emergencies all throughout the day and of course into the evening. We saw utility crews working in Arden with trees falling on power lines one area at a time being addressed. But we also saw back at the Ag Center power trucks coming and using the facilities lots as a staging area to go out and begin repairing power lines, which is common during major storms. At six o'clock, we'll show you one unfolded with flash flooding on on major Asheville thoroughfare. Reporting in South Asheville, Kimberly King, News 13.
