The tragedy of Helene was far beyond concept for all but to wait and watch helpless through the night, only to discover that where our family is from on our mother's side the world has exploded, the mountain has came down on both sides of echo lake and number nine taking 13 members of our family in one fell swoop...devastated we still have to wait to know if our uncle, aunt, cousin and his wife are included in the number because they lived in the middle across from chestnut hill baptist church...
Thankfully they survived yet it still took my aunt's parents and 11 members of the Craig family. To try and imagine the horror of that happening is still incomprehensible then to see the aftermath it's still horrible. To know what for all your life you considered normal - normal will never be the same......ever.
Yet through the tragedy we are grateful to still have our uncle, aunt, cousin and his wife. We were also blessed that the rest of our immediate family only suffered inconveniences of no power, water, etc but everyone came together and we slowly got back to a small type of normal. I am 60 years old and never want to experience anything like this again.
