At about 9:30 am on September 27th, Helene came through. My mother and I were in her house in Marion, North Carolina at 1605 Rutherford Road, which is Highway 221 South, and an enormous oak tree from next door came crashing through and crushed the house and crushed it all the way to the foundation. The doors wouldn't open, neighbors had to kick the doors in to get us out. We made it out without a scratch or bruise on either one of us. It was amazing, and we've been blessed through FEMA and insurance, and help from my employers at Biltmore Estate. We've got a new home now, and never will forget that, though.
