                <text>As I was walking along Clingman Ave. toward the West Asheville/RiverLink Bridge, I spied this little gecko flitting around in some debris. I had never seen this species "in the wild." Intrigued, I watched the lizard go about its business for a few moments, then stuck out my hand wondering if it would approach me. &#13;
&#13;
To my surprise the lizard climbed into my palm and I thought to myself, "perhaps this had been someone's pet." &#13;
&#13;
I carried the gecko around as a companion on my walk for a little while until it became clear it wanted to be released, and I placed it back down in the spot I first saw it. </text>

                <text>Two days after the storm I took a long walk around the River Arts District to survey the damage. There were many people out standing along the West Asheville/RiverLink bridge doing the same. &#13;

I observed this Blue Heron feasting on small fish that were stranded in a large puddle that was created by the receding flood waters. I was glad to see that at least one creature was in some strange way benefitting from the disaster. </text>
