<dcterms:description>Jose Andres is the man who started World Central Kitchen.

I believe that World Central Kitchen kept the area from erupting into chaos by supplying hot, delicious, nutritious meals to anyone and everyone, no questions asked, no bureaucracy, and free.

WCK immediately began putting together food preparation and distribution for Asheville and surrounding areas. As soon as trucks were able to get into town, they supplied water and nutritious food to anyone and everyone. By utilizing helicopters, they were able to get meals to isolated areas, and a lot of volunteers loaded up their own trucks and delivered meals. I recall one day where over 30,000 meals were prepped.

Food was prepared fresh daily, with a rotating menu. Many Asheville restaurants contributed by supplying individual meals that were vegetarian.

By and large Bears Smokehouse BBQ on Coxe Ave really deserves major accolades, as they contributed their business to become the main hub. They had the space, central location, and staff to run the large operation, utilizing as many as six extremely large paella pans to prepare hot food. Volunteers arrived very early in the morning, and worked tirelessly to get the food cooked, packed and delivered.

I could go on and on about the work WCK did in the area. It was an amazing operation. The look on peoples faces when you dished up hot meals and handed them out said it all.
